Do You Dare Teach Kids That Jesus is the Only Way to Heaven?

A man was recently asked to leave the Mall of America. Why? Because he was wearing a shirt that said "Jesus is the only way." Security told him that the shirt was offending people and he must remove it.

Here is a clip of the incident.

Our kids are growing up in a culture that says there are many ways to heaven. If you dare say that "Jesus is the Only Way," you are considered intolerant and a bigot.

But we know and believe that the Bible is very clear to say that Jesus is the only way.

We have a direct command in Scripture to teach the next generation that Jesus is the only way to heaven...even when it's not popular or "politically correct" to say so.

Why is this so important? Because, Jesus truly is the only way to heaven and we must stick to the truth of the Gospel.

The Bible clearly says this in Acts 4:12.

"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

In John 14:6 it says this.

"Jesus said, 'I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"

This past weekend, I helped teach a lesson from our elementary curriculum series "Road Trip." The Road Trip is a 4-week series that helps kids understand that Jesus is the only way to heaven. Here is a brief overview of what we taught them in week 2.

Galatians 1:4

"Jesus gave His life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live."

The right PERSON for eternal life is Jesus.

The verse is very clear about this. It says "JESUS gave His life for our sins."

For the older children, we took a deep dive into why other people like Mohammad, Buddha, Joseph Smith, Mary, etc. are not the way to eternal life.

The right PLAN for eternal life was Jesus.

Look what it says in the verse.

"Just as God our Father PLANNED..."

God's plan for our salvation was to send Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. There is no other plan.

The right PAYMENT.

The verse says "Jesus gave His life for our sins."

Only Jesus can pay for our sins. We are reminded of this in Ephesians 2:8-9.

"God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it."

It is crucial to have a curriculum that effectively reaches and disciples children. Yes. Salvation in Christ and Christ alone goes against the post-Christian culture we now live in. But that is what God has called us to do - to reach the next generation and help them build a solid faith foundation that can withstand the attacks they will face as a Christ-follower.
