Living Like Jesus

As believers, we should strive to be like Jesus. As you study His life, you will see that two words summarize His life and ministry.

The words are found in this verse.

God's true servant is like the Lord Jesus, who came not to be served, but to SERVE and to GIVE His life a ransom for many. Mark 10:45

First of all, if you want to live like Jesus, you should SERVE others.

Jesus set the example for this at the last supper. Normally there was a servant who would wash people's feet as they entered. It was a lowly job...considered by most to be the lowest job in the kingdom. But for some reason, there was no servant there. So it was up to one of the disciples to wash everyone's feet.

No one wanted to humble themselves and wash dirty, smelly feet (they wore sandals).

Jesus got a towel and basin with water. One by one, He started washing their feet.

The ultimate servant...demonstrating by example...what it means to serve others. In God's kingdom, we are called to serve others.

As we strive to live like Jesus, serving is a key factor. It's not about how many people are serving you. Rather it is about how many people you are serving.

The second word that summarizes Jesus' life is GIVE. Jesus gave and gave and gave to others. And then He gave the ultimate sacrifice...His own life. Look again at Mark 10:45...

God's true servant is like the Lord Jesus, who came not to be served, but to SERVE and to GIVE His life a ransom for many. Mark 10:45

We live in a culture that is all about getting. We work and work and work to get and get and get. Hoard up for yourself. Put your needs first. Stash the cash.

When you become a giver instead of a getter, you will discover the joy of living a life of generosity.

The more we give to others, the more fulfilled we will be.

Living like Jesus is the way to experience the full joy of following Him.
