Where Unchurched Kids Live in America

George Barna just released a list of the most post-Christian cities in America. This morning, as I was looking at the list of cities, I found myself praying for the children and families in those cities. I especially prayed for the children. Think about it with me. The best way to reach entire families is through their children. Pray with me that the churches in these cities will focus on reaching the next generation. Pray that they will have God's favor and will be able to capture the hearts of the children and families who live there. Some of you may be reading this and your city is listed. Rather than being discouraged, be encouraged. God has placed you in your city for a reason. He wants to use you to reach the people living there. The Gospel is as powerful as ever. It is the power of God for salvation. We simply must be faithful to share the Gospel with others. God builds His church. I am praying that God will build His church in these cities and that millions of children and families will come to know our wonderful Savior. Would you join me in praying for these cities and the many children and parents who live there? To qualify as “post-Christian,” individuals had to meet nine or more of the following factors.

  • Do not believe in God.

  • Identify as atheist or agnostic.

  • Disagree that faith is important in their lives.

  • Have not prayed to God (in the last week).

  • Have never made a commitment to Jesus.

  • Disagree the Bible is accurate.

  • Have not donated money to a church (in the last year).

  • Have not attended a Christian church (in the last 6 months).

  • Agree that Jesus committed sins.

  • Do not feel a responsibility to “share their faith.”

  • Have not read the Bible (in the last week).

  • Have not volunteered at church (in the last week).

  • Have not attended Sunday school (in the last week).

  • Have not attended religious small group (in the last week).

  • Bible engagement scale: low (have not read the Bible in the past week and disagree strongly or somewhat that the Bible is accurate).

  • Not Born Again.
